Ebbsfleet 1 Basingstoke Town 0.
Basingstoke Town had their very impressive run of five straight victories ended by a strong & resolute Ebbsfleet who claimed all three points here in Kent.
Town played their part I'm a very entertaining game which was a good advert for football at this level.
In a very even first half both sides struggled to break each other down, the highlight of the first 45 mins being Manny Williams striking a post from distance with the keeper beaten. But the sides went in level.
Another very even second period saw Manny Williams again the main tormentor for the away side blazing a good chance over the bar & seeing a good free kick well saved by the home keeper.
The points were won by a 51st minute strike from 'Fleets Michael Thalassitis. Town tried right to the end of the game to gain a share of the points but the home side stood strong to everything that was thrown at them.
Next up for 'Town is a home tie in the FA Trophy against Havant & Waterlooville next Saturday at 3pm.
Happy to keep our winning run going today - thought you looked good going forward and were really unlucky with the shot that cannoned off the post. Defensively you looked more unsure of yourself, though, and we could, and perhaps, should, have had more goals ourselves. As your report above says, it was a good advert for football at Conference South level.
