Dan’s line-up for this Hampshire Snr Cup Final was: 1. Mark Scott, 2. Nathan Smart, 3. Callum Winchcombe, 4. Luis Le Paih, 5. Scott Armsworth, 6. Billy Upton, 7. Bradley Wilson, 8. D’ Andre Brown (Capt), 9. Ben Cook, 10. George Reid, 19. Sam Argent

With a noisy Stoke crowd behind the goal, the final got underway and Bournemouth were in our penalty area in the first few seconds, but Callum Winchcombe was able to clear the ball. Further salvos by Bournemouth were defended, as we gradually eased into the game and we won a free-kick around 25 yards out in the tenth minute. George Reid beats the wall, but his shot is comfortably saved by the keeper.
Good work from Nathan Smart who is able to shut down the next attack down the wing.
D’Andre Brown then breaks forward and finds Bradley Wilson, whose cross is put out for a corner. The corner is comfortably defended.
Bournemouth then attack again and force a decent diving save out of Mark Scott in goal.
Stoke continue to hold their own in midfield, whilst we are limiting our opponents attacks.
Our next attack then causes strong penalty claims as George Reid takes the ball into the Bournemouth penalty area and as he goes along the byline, he appears to get brought down, but the referee points for a goal-kick.
On the half-hour a dangerous move is blocked by three Stoke defenders in the six-yard area.
We have a couple of possessions in the Bournemouth half, but we are unable to make the most of them.
They then attack down the right, but Callum Winchcombe is equal to it, as he put the ball out for a corner. The short corner kick, is however wasted, as a shot is blasted high over the bar.
Bournemouth however attack again and the cross finds their No.3 who smashes a volley, that Scott is equal to it and superbly pushes the ball away. A minute later another fine save by Scott as he pushes the ball out for a corner (37 and 38 mins).
With four minutes to go before the half, we break into the opponent’s half and D’Andre Brown finds Wilson, who turns his defender and then lets fly a shot that is always rising over the bar.
There’s little action to note before the referee blows the halftime whistle, and Stoke go into the break all-square.
Halftime – AFC Bournemouth 0 v 0 Basingstoke Town
The second-half gets underway with Stoke attacking the goal with all the supporters behind, and it’s Stoke who have the first chance, as a beautiful passing move between four Stoke players finds Wilson, but his shot flies wide of the goal.
Then back-to-back attacks by Stoke on fifty minutes, as the first shot is knocked away, only for Wilson to find Sam Argent, who header beats the keeper, but a defender is able to clear it off the line.
We have come out the brighter of the two teams, as we press to open the scoring and we have the next real attack, as Reid & Cook combine in an attack, that has Ben Cook hitting his curling shot just wide of the far right-hand post, with the keeper beaten.
We then give the ball away in our own half, and Bournemouth attack and the initial cross is blocked and the bouncing ball is poked towards our goal, only for Billy Upton to come to the rescue and clear (60 mins).
A stop for an injury, allows Stoke to make it’s first change with Michael Atkinson replacing Luis Le Paih (62 mins).
Mark Scott then makes two important saves within a minute of each other, to keep Bournemouth at bay.
We move into the last fifteen minutes of the game, and we could do with another change, as Bournemouth’s fitness is starting to show, but the players are supporting each other in whatever Bournemouth do.
After many minutes of players warming up down the touchline, we make a double change with Sam Argent replaced by Stefan Brown, and D’Andre Brown replaced by James Clark (82 mins).
We are now in the last five minutes of normal time, and one or two of our players look dead on their feet, but we are finding away to get bodies in front of the ball.
We then make our fourth change with Noah Chengun replacing George Reid
Then a lovely move by Stefan Brown and George Reid forces a corner on the left. Nothing comes from the corner.
Now in the second of six minutes of added-time a tackle by Scott Armsworth, sees him go in the book. The free-kick comes to nothing.
Then a long ball headed on finds Stefan Brown who slides the ball to Wilson who takes it past a defender into the penalty area, before confidently sliding his shot past the keeper into the far corner of the goal. GOAL! AFC Bournemouth 0 - 1 Basingstoke Town (Wilson 95 mins)
The celebrations are crazy on the pitch and behind the goal and it takes over a minute before the game is restarted.
We are now past the allotted time and just waiting for the referee to blow the final whistle.
There’s time for some pushing and shoving down by the touchline, and a player from both sides get booked.
Then there is a huge roar as Basingstoke Town are confirmed Hampshire Snr Cup Champions, when the referee blows his whistle. The scenes behind the goal are ecstasy as the players celebrate down at the bottom of the stand.
Full-time Score: AFC Bournemouth 0 v 1 Basingstoke Town

Match Thought’s
I thought we more than held our own for large parts of the game, and the whole team were superb. Special mentions must of course go to our probable 2023 keeper Mark Scott, who matched anything Bournemouth threw at him, whilst Nathan Smart showed his experience. Of course Bradley Wilson our Golden Boot winner quite rightly gets the all-important winning goal. What a night for the club!!

Well that’s our season finally finished. What a season it’s been and we look forward to next season in whichever league we will be placed in.
