Swindon Supermarine 2-2 Basingstoke Town
Basingstoke Town maintained their pre-season unbeaten form with a 2-2 away draw at a hot and humid Swindon Supermarine.
The heat was such that frequent drinks breaks were taken throughout the match which did not enable either side to develop any real pattern to their game. 'Town looked strong and lively in the opening exchanges and Supermarine had their goalkeeper to thank for making a number of quality saves.
'Town opened the scoring after good work down the left side by Tom Bird and a deep cross saw Manny Williams finish the move with a neat finish at the back post.
Supermarine captained on the day by ex-Basingstoke defender Ross Adams were well worth their equaliser shortly before half time. A corner was flicked on by Adams for his team mate Bradley Gray to head home.
The second half again was interrupted by drinks and substitutions and this time Supermarine were the ones to take the lead capitalising on a static 'Stoke defence. A ball over the top was controlled by Khatape Fall who finished well past Stuart Moore in the 'Town goal.
The goal sparked a revival in the 'Stoke players with substitutes Adam N'diti, Sam Argent and Julian Owusu all linking up well. A deep cross again from the left side from Tom Bird saw Argent rise well at the back post to head powerfully home.
'Town almost won the game on the 85th minute when N'diti flicked the ball over the Supermarine defence for Owusu to fire across goal but his shot was inches wide and adjudged to be offside.
Jason Bristow's men move on to Fleet Town on Tuesday evening (7:45 pm) for their penultimate friendly before the season starts in a fortnight.
