Community and Club update from Adam Clark and Chris Wade
How is the new youth set up at the club taking shape?
Going into the 2014/15 season the club is to have it’s own youth set up. This will include all age groups from under 7′s up to under 18′s. The main purpose for this, is to give good quality coaching on a regular basis and bring through the Town’s future stars to the first team. With the announcement recently regarding Soccer AM the club is certainly moving in the right direction.
We have been recruiting now since April this year. This at times has been challenging but Chris and I can now say we have completed a number of age groups. There are two age groups that we are still working on and we are confident these will be completed by our deadline.
The players will be fashioning in the same home and away kit as the first team this season and this will give them a true club identity. We do not want any child in our set up to feel that they do not belong at the club and that they are not all connected. Being part of a large set up will certainly be exciting.
The training will start in the next few weeks for these age groups and they will all be working with new coaches at the club. The coaches recruited so far all have impressive CV’s, hold extensive coaching qualifications and have experiences in football that all the players will benefit from.
Fixtures for the forthcoming season will be made available by the Junior Premier League to the parents on August 11th. We will be locking horns with the likes of AFC Bournemouth, Weston Super Mare, Oxford City, Gloucester City, Reading and Forest Green to name but a few.
Are there any new coaches at the club?
This week the club took on two full time apprentices. Ben Wilson and Kieran Greene have previously been at our Academy and are the first recruits of the clubs coaching succesion planning. As well as still playing, both coaches will work alongside me and the team on a daily basis. They will work in the community with schools, work with children who have disabilities and also start a number of projects that we have in the pipeline. The apprenticeship will involve coaching regularly and they will also take a Diploma Level 3 in supporting teaching and learning in schools. This is an exciting qualification which will not just help the club but will also open up opportunities for the coaches careers in future years.
Welcome Ben and Kieran!
Our new Junior Premier League set up will also bring additional coaches into the club on a part time basis. We will bring you all the details of these coaches very shortly. This will include interviews and also coaching bio’s to the website. Keep your eyes peeled for this exciting news.
How are the Academy teams looking for this coming season?
The Academy is now moving into its third season at the club and this season promises to be the best yet. We are now up to 50 students that are all signed on to play for the club at Academy level. We now have a 2nd year group and a new intake of 1st year players. They will all take their education programme onsite and train during a morning or afternoon session with Jason and his team.
Having this much contact time with Jason and myself the players are benefiting massively and we are giving the club the best chance to produce players for the first team. Having the new youth set up in place for the oncoming season will help us with recruitment as we will already have a team that can go straight into the Academy.
The club is now going into the 2nd summer holiday while you have been at the club. How has this summer started?
Last year I started at the club with Chris Wade on July 1st so we had to act quickly to get bookings in place to make the summer holiday camp a success. It was slow starting but by the end of the holiday we had great numbers attending.
Going into this summer we have been prepared a lot better and our bookings have shown this. We have children attending every day of the holiday and a large percentage of the group are repeat bookings. Over the course of the past year we have had a number of half terms that have also been excellent. The children have loved attending our courses and they are certainly going from strength to strength.
If you would like to book a place on our holiday camp please email adam.clark@basingstoketown.net for details or you can also call 01256 327575.
After the summer are there any new projects that will be introduced?
There certainly is. With Ben and Kieran now working at the club on a daily basis it gives us a lot more help to get our projects planned and implemented. One of the projects we wish to introduce in the future is a Girls Development Centre. These plans are in the very early stages at the moment but we hope to get this up and running during next season. We will be continuing our ever growing relationships with schools. This will involve various after school clubs, PPA and also inviting schools to become guests to certain fixtures. Our disability football which takes place every Tuesday at the ground will also be improving. We have plans to introduce further coaches and improve our number of attendee’s with new relationships with schools in the local area. We have also increased the number of schools quite significantly over the last season and will make a seperate announcement re these projects when signed up for the new term. We inherited one school from the previous incumbant and this has fgrowen to close to 15 at present with more coming on board.
I will also be exploring the possibility of holding a weekend 5-a-side league, futsal and also further position specific sessions open to the public.
We are always coming up with new idea’s for the club so please keep an eye on the website for any new developments.
Is there anything else you would like to make the fans aware of Adam?
We are still looking for a number of support coaches that can assist with a training sessions next season. They will have to hold a Level 2 certificate in coaching football.
Also, all of our Junior Premier League games will be taking place on a Saturday at various venues around Basingstoke. If any fans are interested in volunteering any time to help out with putting nets up and becoming Assistant Referees the club would be extremely grateful.
And finally, we are very close to confirming Mr Tom Walton as a new volunteer to the club. Mr Walton’s grandson Nathan will be playing in our youth set up next season at under 16′s. His role at the club will be as referee co-ordinator. He will be working alongside me on a weekly basis to arrange referee’s for all our youth fixtures. Mr Walton will bring a wealth of experience to the club and we are all looking forward to welcoming him to the set up. We are hoping this appointment will be confirmed in the coming days.
What can we all look forward to in the coming weeks?
In the coming weeks I will be confirming with you all our new coaching team with interviews and bio’s. We will have a testimonial page coming to the club website. This will have statements from participants who have taken part in our projects and also from the parents. As always keep an eye on twitter, facebook and the official club website for updates.
If anyone has any further questions or queries please contact Adam at the club directly. His email address is adam.clark@basingstoketown.net
