I went to the newly-renamed Soccer AM Stadium on Saturday where, along with some friends, I saw BTFC lose two-one to Woking.
My thoughts -
The link up with Soccer AM - love it, great coup. However, I could see Soccer AM losing interest fast if BTFC don't hit the ground running in the new season. It's time Jason Bristow was given the biggest player budget in the Conference South and a real chance to deliver Conference Premier football, a success I am sure Soccer AM would love to be associated with.
Saturday's game - I know pre-season home games are traditionally against higher level opposition but the four-figure crowd yesterday badly needed to see a BTFC win. I felt they were, at times, played off the park by Woking, and the defending for Woking's two goals did not impress. I know Woking are far better than anything BTFC will face this season, but new visitors to the ground just don't get that - especially the kids - and it would have been great to see BTFC instead give someone like Whitchurch a five-nil thumping to get the new fans wanting to come back for more come the new season. Thought for pre-season freebie games in the future?
BTFC's goalscorer - I thought Adam Nditi looks a bit too physically light weight to cut it as a defender at this level but going forwards he produced the best bit of skill the entire game in My view. I doubt he will sign for BTFC but I can see him having an impact wherever he does sign, especially if he is played a bit further up the park.
BTFC's prospects in 2014/15 - they really impressed Me with the manner in which they won the Hampshire Cup Final against decent opponents in H & W in the spring. Lots of cause for hope.
The new ground - I hope it happens and, according to what I have heard, it will. Apparently the is predictable opposition from local residents, but the overall feeling on the Council is it will be good for the town, which it undoubtedly will be.
