Basingstoke extended their winning run to three with a comfortable win. Hayes and Yeading held a slight edge during the early exchanges but once the 'stoke opened the scoring around the half hour mark there only ever seemed to be one winner.
The opening goal came when a right wing corner was headed in by Manny Williams from almost on the goal line. The Hayes goalie and defenders seemed to have got confused as to who was to take charge.
The second goal came not too long after when a shot from the right side hit the post and Simon Dunn followed up to score.
The second half saw 'stoke mostly on top and could and should have probably scored a few more. Hayes staged a late rally during injury time and came close to scoring. However Basingstoke held on with another good performance. David Ray came on as substitute early in the match for Rob Rice and had a very impressive match. Manny Williams received the man of the match. I seen Frank Gray at the match and the BTFC cameraman said he caught the 'stoke second goal.
All in all an impressive performance in front of around 400 spectators.
Another excellent result. I hope we can keep up this form especially during the winter months. I seem to recall we had a good start a bit like this last season, so lets hope it doesn't fall away again this time. I do get the feeling that we seem to be a better team this season and certainly goal scoring does seem a lot better.
I thought we were a bit slow out the blocks but once we took the lead we were reasonably comfortable and in the end we deserved to win the game. H&Y rallied late on but I can't remember Stuart Moore having to make any saves. We are now up to the dizzy heights of 2nd and a tough game awaits us at Farnborough who won 2-1 away at Wealdstone today.
Another decent 3 points from the lads and although we were reasonably slow out the blocks for the first 20-25 minutes, I still felt that we were the better side. Two good goals aswell. Second half we were all over them and it could and probably should have been 5 or 6. Very comfortable in the end.
Onto Farnborough then and being a local derby I expect it to be a tough game but the way we are playing at the moment I am fully confident we can get a win.
