Basingstoke Town Football Club’s proposal to relocate to a new stadium is now under public consultation. If you'd like to have your say, visit the link bit.do/stadium which will take you to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s website and fill in a short survey about the proposed move.
I've said take my money already, despite you already stating that old ground will provide most funding
I didn't really but I did say: Larger stadiums means more visitors and more shopping for locals, More income for the city allowing more jobs and expansion. It's an obvious yes!

"There is no doubt that a new multi-purpose stadium would be good for the profile of the town, but there are huge public doubts about whether the Old Common is the right site."
Im really struggling to see your motives here, what sort of response do you expect? As a club we are trying to move to a new ground, you have decided as is your right to sign a petition against the location. Please correct if I am wrong as I often am but did you not help out with the original presentation of the ground in this location? Again if wrong I apologise, but maybe you could explain why you are against the location being used, then we can start a debate.
As for the comment of bringing back the beer bus, everyone has their own way of travelling to matches and enjoying their own free time, the support from the fans has been incredible this season and Danner has played a superb part in that and as anyone at concord will tell you that was pure passion for supporting our team.
"True" fans, what do we all think this is, for me it is a fan who attends as regular as they can, support their team but also crucially will ask questions both positive and negative when required, you do not have to be 100%, everything is great, but you do have to be fair in your judgement. Also on this point noticed so many more younger faces behind the goal recently, starting chants and really getting involved, its fantastic and a good sign for the future.
Basil "True Fan" Arranged a few "beer buses" 100% Behind the new ground Happy to debate in a fair and open manner
Nice to see you stooping to (or even below) my level Dave, that'll teach me! I'm not going to get sucked into a debate with you, I'll never win as you'll keep moving the goalposts and I know you're just trying to get somebody to slip up and say something that can be used as ammunition in your latest crusade.
By all means, anybody that truthfully feels this way about the new stadium location can and should have the right to debate as such. In fact, it's nice to see a bit of true democracy in society for a change. Although I'm sure the 570 people at the Camrose on Tuesday night will disagree with the 200-odd signatures on the petition. How many people would there have been if the game was hosted in a nice, new stadium with modern facilities? But please Dave, if you truthfully feel this way about the Old Common land and this isn't a personal stab at the club then please continue to fight for what you believe in. It is, after all, your right. It's just I doubt many people on a pro-BTFC forum will agree with you. It's like going into a pub (or a beer bus, for that matter) and asking people to sign a petition in favour of prohibition!
This is all I will say on the matter, I haven't made any personal remarks, simply made an analysis of the content of a post aimed at me in a snide manner.

I had placed the post there in order to be open about my position and not to be accused of working, or indeed crusading, dishonestly. This is a forum for all supporters of the club and debate could have followed.
Unfortunately I got exactly what I expected Lee which took me back in time to the days of true fans real fans and having to be there to have a right to comment. With the return of the old fans shouting people down or taking the piss approach that the club appears to have adopted in the face of opposition the beerbus just seemed a logical progression. I’m also sure Danner got exactly the response he was expecting from his post.
Re the ground I am happy to tell you why I am against the proposed new ground. Yes I did promote the plan at the original public consultations as director and general manager of the club. I was never as excited about it as some but I argued the case for a new stadium as did the two councillors for the proposed area and we listened to what people had to say. I was quite pissed off at the time when the councillors then appeared to change sides but bear in mind that even as a director of the club I had had no knowledge of the negotiations with the council or any input into the design or location but after the disappointment of the sports hub we were working on what we had been told, that this was it. The only option. There was no plan B.
Also bear in mind that we are now three years on and I have been back outside the btfc bubble for a while also having had personal experience of working hard for change and progress only to be kicked in the teeth and discover that real investment and genuine community involvement in the club was never what anyone else had in mind. I have had time to think. While at the club I had attended many conference briefings about stadium regeneration, community involvement, application for grants, use of facilities, the need to raise income through means other than football etc etc etc also attending many other grounds to talk to people about how they had made things work. I looked at new grounds, old grounds, training facilities, asked for meetings to discuss, and began the processes myself for both community and commercial. The rest as you know is history.
Aside from the issues of loss of public space (which speaks for itself) and parking for events (a bit of information to confirm or deny the loss of events in the Memorial Park should we lose the parking facility wouldn’t go amiss as I myself certainly wouldn’t want to lose the Transport Festival. In fact a bit of concrete information on anything would be nice!), the important thing about any new ground is that it is accessible and sustainable and all the talk of the club being debt free is all very well if its true, but it is struggling now and if the chairman builds the ground, leaves a bit of money in the bank and walks away as he has said he will, I just can’t see enough income being generated by this facility on that site. I would like the chairman and the council to think again and do better by the club.
Dave long time supporter of Basingstoke Town Football Club totally against self serving officials 100% behind a fully sustainable stadium that genuinely serves the long term ambitions of the club rather than the short term aims of individuals
Lets ignore the first 2 paragraphs, a slanging match will serve no purpose.
We share the same views of wanting a ground and probably most important the facilities to support the football club and also the wider community. Where we differ is clearly the site, in my opinion it is vital for good transport links, M3 and train station both close by. The facility of good quality training area/pitches, the plan has these and they are also available for the schools, which again for me is fantastic as it is an easy win for the wider community. The ground needs to suit the purpose of a growing football club, lets not argue on where the club is or is going, we will never agree. We also need to offer a more proffesional infrastructure to outside business in terms of hiring our facilites for meetings etc. The academy, which is doing fantastically, will benefit from better facilities offered.
I think the site offers all of this, so looking at the loss of public space, i personally think that actually parking would be improved by having the purpose built car park, when you look at more winter time events, fire works for example, a tarmac car park has to be a winner over a field. It may and i am speaking for myself here be possible for the club to be more active in the events at the park and be able to showcase ourselves to the people visiting them.
The fact is Raffi will clearly leave at some point, with a new ground or not, so surely it is better to have one and be a more attractive proposition as well as be forward thinking, there is no doubt in my mind the new ground will increase the clubs revenue and make us so much stronger, am I looking for us to go flying up the leagues, no, I want us to be sustainable and as strong as possible, this ground for me offers this.
I like your signature Basil. Debates are the life blood of Forums which is something that Twitter and Facebook can never provide. During the war years we lived in Grove Road and the by-pass used to pass through the common to the Black dam and the junction between London Road and the A30. The old by-pass road no longer exists between these two locations. The main common land was between the by-pass and the Memorial Park where the then famous Park Albion football club played their home matches. I believe that sports-field area has now gone and is used for other purposes. I understand the proposed new stadium will be fairly close to this area and if so, I feel it would be great to bring back the concept of football into the area. I feel it would be great to have a stadium in fairly close proximity of the town center, thus giving the town more direct contact with the club.
