Is somebody having a laugh here? How can we make a bid for a player who has probably never heard of Basingstoke when we can't afford to have Sergio Torres back when he wanted to come?
It's called publicly, first it's in the gazette, then the national papers pick it up, then the tv. It gets people talking about and interested in Basingstoke Town FC.
This has gone too far now, it's one thing having a laugh but we're now pushing the limits of the goodwill expressed over the Soccer AM deal. If this had been April 1st we could have had a laugh about it and moved on but I worry we're going to become a laughing stock in the name of publicity.
I admire what Simon and Jack have done with Soccer AM, the advertising etc but we do need to be careful what goes out into the public domain.

Agree, if this goes national, then local sponsorship interest increases
edit: this has not just gone national but a lot of foreign sports sites are now picking up on it.
It's obviously not going to happen. People are talking about it though and it's hardly negative for that to happen. Clearly tounge in cheek and a bit of fun. Well done to the club, the marketing has been fantastic recently.
It's ambitious, and why not? All teams start off like Basingstoke Town have, dreaming of signing the big stars one day and a new staduim, both which Basingstoke Town are going for at the moment, don't forget they are applying for new ground to build a new stadium!
Around 15,000 hits on the story on our website so far. Also in the Mail and Mirror today, as well as all over the internet.
I understand the scepticism, but those numbers are insane. For example, a normal preview story only gets around 200 hits, on a good week.
Plus it was great fun for me to see a story I had written take off like that! Not sure even Simon could have dreamed it would go this big, but fair play, it's another fantastic bit of publicity.
From a publicity point of view its great exposure for the club as the story has made headlines in the national and international press, so from that point of view you can't knock it.
