We're looking in to the possibility of bringing back Lucky 7's to top up Jason's player budget but we need the assistance of you, the fans to be sellers of tickets to friends, family, neighbours, clubs or to your colleagues at work. The potential to raise a decent amount of funds for the team we love is there but we need you.
You know the drill, pay a £1 a go and predict a home win, away win or draw from the 7 selected games and if you get them correctly, you'll be in with a shout of the £100+ jackpot each week which rolls over if there are no winners.
Would you or anyone you know be interested in becoming a Lucky 7 seller or do you have any thoughts or ideas on its return? Maybe an incentive to the seller who sells the most tickets each week?
I was only discussing with a couple of people the other week trying to introduce a game where we can boost Jason's Budget. I think the lucky 7 is a short term answer that we can use quickly this season. However I would like to see something new for next season where we can actually include people with non footballing knowledge, I would be very happy to help with this and have a couple of ideas.
In the mean time I will buy lucky 7's, dont think I would be able to sell many but can give it a go.
I agree Basil. The Lucky 7 has many difficulties that make it a time consuming and difficult product to sell. Something that does not require the purchaser to make selections whilst the vendor waits is required. Perhaps something along the lines we suggested a few years ago?
I think there are numerous ways of approaching it, i agree Bill it needs to be quick and easy. It needs to sell itself, its great having people who can go out and sell them but that has to be subsidised with an online element. The actual type of game matters little, providing there is a good prize or prizes then people will be interested.
We need to ensure we are not insular with any idea, it has to be something we can spread across the town and get local business involved in, it will take a lot of planning, hence why i was saying potentially next season.
i dont want to tread on anyones toes, the club may already have an idea, just putting my view across and offering to help run it.
Not sure on how the law stands on it or the cost of producing it but what about scratch cards with a football theme. Simple, easy to do and no football knowledge required so there by making it open to a wider market.
Thanks Basil - we're open to feedback and suggestions so I'll speak with you at tomorrow's game about some of your ideas. It's primarily about putting the feelers out to see opinions and to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. I agree that Lucky 7 may not be the long term answer due to its downsides that have been mentioned above but for the meantime (for potentially until the end of the season the rest of the season), it would help this seasons efforts as long as it made returns regardless.
If anyone else has any ideas they'd like to pass on, bear in mind that there are restrictions on publishing football fixtures without appropriate licenses and other gambling restrictions that have to be adhered to too but we'll put review each and every one.
I think the lucky 7 will always bring in a few quid but unless the prize money is quite high you'll normally get much better odds at the bookies. How about doing a fans v sponsors fund raise where every home game a bucket collection is made and what ever is collected the sponsors either match or double, and at the end of the season there could be a fans v sponsors match with all proceeds going to the budget I do feel short term we need to boost it while were doing so well at the moment
Another idea could be pub page in the programme, where we get as many as we can of the town's and surrounding area pubs to advertise for say £25. For this fee they advertise posters for forthcoming games but in return get a free season ticket to raffle at their leisure. It might not sound good value for us but imagine that season ticket winner had won this at the start of the season i'm sure he would be now bringing two or three other paying customers with him
