Jim Have you not been reading some excellent work from Ken Gaunt for the club over all players movements on the club website, Twitter, Facebook or in the match day programme?? John Boyman is doing a great job as always but to state what you have above is a tad harsh and misleading in my view. For any supporters wanting up to date information and interviews register on the website and you will receive the pieces in your inbox.
Sorry Paul but I have to agree with Jim,not every one is interested in twitter or Facebook ( I for one have no interest in how many times someone goes to the toilet or visits asda ). What I do want to know and to be able to find out by simply looking on the forum is why on deadline day Robbie has left and unlikely not to be returning in such a crucial part of our season
Not so much Facebook and Twitter as I also do not go on there much but I was referring to our website and the great work being done by Ken Gaunt. I will speak with Simon re the forum as agree this is not kept up to date as much as the website.
What a bitterly disappointing afternoon. Our biggest crowd of the season (good turn by Wealdstone who probably had 120-130) and we produce one of our worst performances.
We just can't perform at home when we get a big crowd and it hurts when you read comments like this on facebook.
'Shocking and another waste of £12 seems like they don't want to win the league!!!'
I'm glad 3 of our remaining 5 games are away from home as for some reason we can't replicate the away performances at home. Interesting post on the Wealdstone forum which I think we can all relate to.
'If you look at the list of clubs with the best away record in our division we are a handsome sixth, ahead of play-off pushers like Havant & Waterlooville, Whitehawk and Ebbsfleet. Yet over HALF of our division has a better away record than home record! Right down to 12th place in the 'away table' will you find teams with more wins than defeats on their travels... while only the top ten in the 'home' table have stacked up more wins than losses. Extraordinary when you consider the days when most teams had a 'fortress' home mentality, and just a half decent away record would ensure promotion. It certainly seems easier to set the Stones up for success away. We keep a compact shape, and with Jefferson Louis, Matt Ball and Luke O'Nien yesterday all lively on the break, it seems simpler to stifle teams and hit them when they least expect it. Is there more expectation at The Vale? The crowd gets restless and frustrated when we try to pick our way through teams who are set up to defend, and to concede the first goal (as we have so often done) is disastrous. The opposition have something to bite on, sit deep and hit us on the counter attack as we over-commit. It's no coincidence that easily our best displays at The Vale have come when we've kept a clean sheet (St Albans in the Trophy, Hayes & Yeading (twice), Concord and Gosport. The rare exception was Chelmsford when we came back from 2-1 behind to win 4-2, but I put that down to a bit of luck running our way and some naiive defending. I wouldn't put it past us to lose our final two home games and get max points on the road at Farnborough and Maidenhead. What can GB do? The old 'pretence trip' of assembling the squad at Grosvenor Vale at 11am, driving around for a couple of hours, maybe finding some pitches to try out a few set plays, and then turning up in the away changing rooms as if it's an away game? It could work. The regular away fans could do the same thing, all turning up early, having lots of beers, trying out the Rollin Kitchen and STANDING TOGETHER in a pre-arranged spot, pretending it's an away fixture. We could admire the ground and its acoustics, marvel at the home team's programme and the choice of music, and even trot out in our away strip. We might even realise what a marvellous venue the Vale is'
Yesterday really hurt because of the superb crowd, I know it was enhanced the Wealdstone Raider but put on a show and you never know. We failed to do that and it'll be interesting to see how many show up for Farnborough. Stuart Moore being put through the wringer on Facebook also hurts.
Crazy game. Stuart Moore was not at fault for any of the goals as far as I can remember. Shocking defending though & to say that Gasson looked rusty is being kind. Despite that, we created way more chances than they did but didn't put them away. This has been the story of our season at home. Many times we have created loads of chances but not made them count, but generally we don't concede too many (often due to excellent performances from Stuart) & get away with it. We need wins over Easter now.
Don't understand the criticism of Moore. He possibly could have done better with the first goal, but I don't see how he can be blamed for any of the others. The defending was a far bigger problem.
Easter will without doubt make or break our season now and too many more dropped points will cost us a overall place in the playoffs and that's unfortunately the straight up truth
Losing to Wealdstone was pretty much the end of our title chase and we'd be now very lucky to win the league but with 5 games left and still having the ability to control our own fate for a shot in the playoffs is still very much in our hands
Hayes & Yeading is a must get something game to avoid any sort of panic and we should then turn up on Monday and should really end Farnborough's miserable tough season and should really relegate them
As John said though ANYONE who is given Stuart Moore bad stick for his performance on Saturday has clearly not been to enough games this season and isn't a true fan
Without Stuart I've said along with others even saying it we would not be in the position that we are in this season and even Rob Dickie who earned a brilliant England Under 19's call up has massively helped our position in the table
Here here on Stuart Moore. I thought he was a bit slow to react to the first goal but still got to the initial shot. Not really sure what he was expected to do with the other three? I can't actually remember him making another save of any note though which is perhaps why he is getting some stick.
Gasson on the other hand was all over the place, but he's been out for a while and was clearly lacking match practice. The Wealdstone fans cheered his every touch but their centre forward was a unit and clearly difficult to deal with.
What worried me far more was the lack of confidence that seemed to flow through the side on Saturday after they went 3-1 down. The number of miscontrols from Flood, Macca and Soares was insane - that can't have all been down to the pitch (which is awful). Still, no need to overreact - the playoffs are still on and 6 points this weekend are crucial as I don't fancy having to get something from Weston on the last day!
