I will be attending my first game this Saturday with my partner and young son after hearing about Basingstoke town being in the playoffs and wanting to see what the club was like and what the quality of football was like on offer.
I am a local and have lived in Basingstoke all my life. I have been a season ticket with leyton orient for the past 14 years (based in East London) however I have always followed Basingstoke town as a 2nd club being that they are my local town club.
i was wondering if any polite people on here could let me know any key information I need to know about anything from the key players for the club to the stadium. Anything really to prepare me for when I visit Saturday.
I will sign off this by saying congratulations for a great season and hope that the lads get a decent result against whitehawk this Wednesday.
Watching Football at our level feels like a different world, even when compared with League One or Two (I also follow Portsmouth so I've watched most divisions!!). It's a much more personal experience, we get to know the players, have a drink and a chat with them in the Clubhouse after the game etc.
We are not segregated at games and will often chat with the opposing fans over a pint after the game.
The standard of Football won't be as high as you might be used too but it's very honest, quite physical and often very exciting. The Basingstoke players to watch are our Goalkeeper Stuart Moore, on loan from Reading and highly rated by them and us, our Right Back Tom Bird won a professional contract at Chelsea on a TV programme a few years ago and still coaches at their Academy. We also have former Reading midfielder James Harper and our front 3 Chris Flood, Liam Enver-Marum and Manny Williams have all got more than 10 goals this season.
