OK, it was ''only'' the Hampshire Cup, and the once mighty Farnborough currently lie bottom (though they have only played half their matches so far) of the Isthmian Premier Division.
However, as the cliche goes, you can only beat what is put in front of you, if you're stronger on paper you still have to go out and do the job, and tonight BTFC made their visitors look several divisions inferior and played them off the park.
I was particularly impressed with Lloyd Macklin, whose work rate is in a zone of its its own and who showed some flair tonight too.
Also impressed by Gilkes, who has fought his way into that first team totally on merit.
Nice little assist for Enver-Marum for the opening goal but have to say that, apart from that, he once again disappointed me.
Lack of desire and too easily second best in 50-50s for a big fella.
Good to see George Hallahan given almost the entire second half - Managers of yesteryear would maybe have given him five minutes at the end, if he got on the pitch at all - but this is all that is good about Jason Bristow, ready to give youth a chance and to change things and change things fast when Plan A isn't working, not that the latter was the case here.
Not a scintillating full first team debut, but a couple of nice touches and there will be plenty more to come from him in due course.
Really enjoyable match - onwards and upwards. =D
One last thing - I would be curious to know the make and brand of the Farnborough keeper's boots - they need recalling en masse to the manufacturer. Someone could get hurt falling over that many times while simply trying to kick a ball.
